Welcome to Fair Haven, Vermont

Under the southwestern “hook” of Vermont, where the Taconic Mountains give way to the historic Champlain Valley lies the picturesque town of Fair Haven. Known as the “Slate Center of the Nation”, and Vermont’s Western Gateway, Fair Haven chartered and settled in 1779. Fair Haven prospered as a mill town, with numerous works developed on the falls of the Castleton River by Colonel Matthew Lyon.

In the mid-1800’s, the first slate quarries were opened, beginning an industry that has continued to thrive until today.

Today, Fair Haven is a charming village, featuring a large and beautiful park in the center of the downtown business district. The architecture in our community is some of the finest examples of Victorian architecture in the State. The park is home to many events throughout the year, including the Spring Fling, Summer Concert Series, the Fair Haven Farmer’s Market, Movies in the Park, the annual Apple Fest and more.

Downtown Fair Haven features quaint shops, a craft brewery, and eateries all within walking distance of most of the Town.

Our townspeople are friendly, schools and public services are first rate, and opportunities in Fair Haven are only limited by one’s creativity and imagination. On your next visit to Vermont, be sure to visit our quaint town of Fair Haven. Come for a visit. It may just turn into a lifetime.
